Navarre Florida's Early Start

Guy Wyman, a colonel in the U.S. Army, founded Navarre under the name of Navarre during World War I. During the war, he met a French nurse named Noelle and brought her back to Florida’s Panhandle, where he purchased a huge amount of property. Noelle dubbed their holdings Navarre after the Spanish province Wyman plotted it in 1925; however, no steps toward development were taken. However, owing to the Great Depression and their inability to pay taxes on it, the Wymans had no choice but to sell it off beginning in 1930. Today’s Navarre Park is part of that land sale.

Today, In the northwest Florida Panhandle, Navarre is a growing unincorporated community. It’s a major bedroom community for mostly United States military personnel, federal civil servants, locals, retirees, and defense contractors.
