Laurel Hill is a small town in Okaloosa County, Florida. In 2020, the town had 633 residents. It's part of the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview-Destin metro area. And it covers 3.1 square miles
The first settlers were referred to as Almirante. In 1895, the community was renamed Laurel Hill in order to differentiate it from another settlement named Almirante. The new name is thought to have been referring to a large Laurel tree that stood close to the community center.

Until then, Laurel Hill was part of the Yellow River Railroad network and served as a stop for the rapidly developing lumber industry. It's close to Eglin Air Force Base, which is one of America's foremost military research and testing facilities.
